Austin A. Kanter had been in the financial services industry since 1949, specializing in strategies that allow his clients to reduce estate transfer costs and increase assets transferred to heirs. A national leader in his industry, Austin garnered nearly every award and honor the industry offers. He qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table for 44 consecutive years and won numerous National Sales Achievement Awards and National Quality Awards for excellence in sales and service to policyholders. Austin was among the Top 100 Producers for National Life in 2001 and a member of the Circle of Excellence.*
A graduate of Wayne State University, Austin was honored with the Wayne State University School of Business Administration Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1994. He earned the chartered life underwriter designation (1954) and the chartered financial consultant designation (1982). In addition, he had been an instructor for the LUTC.
Austin was the recipient of several awards for outstanding service to the industry and the community, including the E. H. "Bill" Meyers, Jr. Memorial Award, the Second Annual GAMA Service Award and the Marvin E. Muilenberg, CLU Award. He led both the Detroit Life Underwriters Association and the Detroit General Agents and Managers Association, had been vice president of the Michigan State Life Underwriters Association and was president of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Detroit in 1990.
Austin provided both time and funding to many local and national non-profit organizations, including The Parade Company, Volunteer Impact, the United Jewish Charities, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Wayne State University. Additionally, he was honored as the Distinguished Grand Jester of the Distinguished Clown Corps of the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade.
